EFKO was established in 1968 by its owner, Engineer Mohamed Kamal Ghoniem, Chairman of Board and Managing Director. It has long distinguished itself by providing high quality executed work. It was called Electro-Mechanical and Contracting Company (EFKO), as it was engaged in two fields, the electrical and industrial. The former was in transforming stations and the latter, was in steel construction, pumping stations and manufacturing compressed pipes. In 1974, the Construction Ministry was first established in Egypt and this drove EFKO to instantly adopt its resources to a new challenge of new industry and diversified its specialty to construction projects. It started with building infrastructure and Turnkey communities, which constituted the biggest share. It ranged from planning land space, leveling, and infrastructure such as watering, road construction, and electrical project such as lighting. EFKO was also interested in the mechanical projects and has had a long history in executing projects in the Military Sector. It enlarged its specialization and renamed itself as Engineering and Contracting Company, in 1978 due to rise in demand in the Construction field. It offered a great number of building infrastructures, planning, financing in both the North Coast and Turnkey, and concession of Mokattam. In 1994, EFKO had decided not only to act as a contractor put to takeover investment projects as well, so it renamed itself for the third time as the Egyptian Real Estate Investment Company. Since 2007 EFKO have started to walk another pass by opening new carrers and new goals successfully by establishing 2 other companys ( the Egyptian company for investments and agriculture , Ras deheesa for tourism and sail and diveing ) and was all under the name of Ghoneem group , Finally , the years have given EFKO a solid ground to constantly progress towards its goals successfully.
